Actually, the inspiration behind taking this photos was seeing wonderful spider photos from a friend of mine. I was bound and determined to at least get one photo of the spider–here he is.

Although there was a threat of thunderstorms today, I managed to venture out to the Key Biscayne Art Festival. This year I was a spectator rather than an exhibitor. Anyway, on the way, I noticed this guy and took a photo of him. This was right by the library, one of my favorite areas of the Key.

I added more dimension to the snorkel, mouth piece, darkened the bubbles, added color to his ears and added to his tank. Hope you like this guy. He was done on a silk pillow 13″ by 13″.
Here is my first silk pillow. The front has a koala scuba diving, inspired by my own painting of that and the back has the face of a koala cheerfully looking at you.
This panda went through a lot. I was not happy with his face–too many sequins. Then I added glitter–too much glitter. Then I added gouache paint and now I am done. Hope you like this serious clarinet player.

When I showed the image of the penguin after his “surgery”, I got interesting reactions. The penguin’s body blended in too much with the snow background. In addition, some questioned why I had pink in the snow. So this morning, before work, I performed a second cosmetic surgery. And now you can see where his body finishes and the snow background begins. The pink in the snow is now both pink and yellow and some of the sky is reflected. Maybe I should have added blue as well… But this is it–this is the final take on this penguin!
Mixed media (Felt, Glitter, Paint, Beads)
When I posted this guy 2 weeks ago, nobody liked him. 🙁 So yesterday, I decided to give him dimension. With a little bit of felt, glitter, lots of glue and a bead (for his eye), this is the result….
This koala is a rocking koala! Bling! Bling! It may be one of my favorites and it represents my first venture into mixed media.
